Cooperation with foreign-language parents
- Regular, intensive contact and discussions between parents and teachers are of prime importance. If necessary, teachers or parents will have to see to a translation.
- Additional events in a school or an entire school community are also suitable, with information for the parents and input as to how to support their children in learning (parental training). It is advisable to use suitable, bilingual contact persons in order to reach parents speaking a foreign language.
- We recommend that representatives of the bigger language groups be included in parent councils and parent forums of the schools.
- Schools councils could set up advisory "committees for integration issues" with representations of the major language communities. By doing so, they would be involved in questions regarding schools and have joint responsibility
